Long-Term Storage Guidelines for LiFePO₄ Energy Storage Batteries

Introduction

Many users store LiFePO₄ batteries for several months or even years before installation. Without correct storage procedures, battery capacity and voltage may decline, affecting performance when put back into service.

1. Preparation Before Storage

  • Charge to 50% SOC to balance safety and stability.
  • Label the storage date and check voltage before sealing.
  • Clean terminals to prevent oxidation.

2. Storage Conditions

Store in a ventilated, non-corrosive, dust-free environment with a temperature between 15°C–30°C and humidity below 65%. Avoid metal contact and vibration.

3. Voltage Maintenance

Check voltage every 3–6 months. If it drops below 3.0V per cell, perform a slow recharge using a LiFePO₄-compatible charger. Avoid overcharging or fast charging during reactivation.

4. Reactivation Procedure

When reusing the battery, perform a full charge-discharge cycle to restore balance between cells and recalibrate the BMS (Battery Management System).

Conclusion

Following these long-term storage guidelines ensures that LiFePO₄ energy storage batteries remain safe, reliable, and ready for deployment even after extended dormancy.
